‘Fifty Shades of spring’ is a workshop that covers 10 weeks of photo ideas to capture the essence of spring and ensures that you find time to take pictures even when things are at their busiest.

Each week begins with a list of ideas for the respective photo theme and is complemented by a Pinterest mood board.

WEEK 1: Blossoms

This first week is all about capturing the beautiful blossoms that are so abundant this time of year (and are already in full bloom). There are so many creative ways to capture blossoms, and each day this week I'll introduce you to a new method. As an added bonus, you'll also learn the basics of flower photography—as soon as you sign up!

WEEK 2: Flowers

Last week you learned how to creatively capture flowers with your camera. This week we're adding flowers to your skillset. Spring brings forth an abundance of different types of flowers (and weeds), from dandelions to peonies. Each day is dedicated to a different flower.

WEEK 3: Weather and Light

The weather and light in spring demand special attention and there are many wonderful opportunities for photography that you can combine with certain weather and light conditions.

WEEK 4: Outside

This week invites you to take your camera outside and capture the world around you creatively. Each day this week, we focus on one aspect of daily life outdoors, each of which is complemented by creative ideas.

WEEK 5: landscapes

This week you will learn how to master different types of landscape photos. There is also a guide in which you will learn everything you need to know about landscapes – knowledge that will stay with you long after the spring months are over.

WEEK 6: Poetry

Now things are starting to get a little hectic. Let's slow down the pace a bit and focus on capturing our thoughts and personality in our photos. This week's lessons are accompanied by a workbook that will help you define who you are, not just as a photographer, but as a person.

WEEK 7: Textures, patterns and co.

Textures are everywhere and in abundance – if you know where to look. They are easy to find, easy to capture and a great way to get really creative with your camera.

This week I will give you ideas on where to find the coolest ones and how to incorporate them into your photos.

WEEK 8: Lemonade & Co.

This week is all about enjoying food and drinks outdoors. Every day there is a cool recipe and the method for how to best capture the finished results!

WEEK 9: Create collages, diptychs, etc.

Several things characterise a good photo collage. They are a great way to present a group of photos that are similar either in style or in theme.

This week, the topic is complemented by a video about creating collages and different types of collages in Canva. Canva is free and absolutely wonderful!

WEEK 10: photo editing

In this photo editing series, you'll learn how to edit flowers, add sunlight to your photos, and enhance the spring spirit in your artwork.

Bonus: Easter happiness

Easter may be one of the most under-photographed holidays, but this week's photo ideas will change that! Each day, you'll learn how to master a new Easter-themed photo challenge.

The photos you'll create using this week's ideas are perfect for selling as stock photos or in greeting cards, like on Etsy.

Taster lesson: photographing eggs

An excerpt from the Easter bonus chapter

Eggs are naturally eye-catching due to their simple, oval shape and matte, plain texture. They work well as simple, minimalist photographs as well as part of a scene.

Basics of egg photography:

  • Due to their smoothness, it isn't easy to focus on them. Your camera's autofocus may jump around as it tries to focus. Use your camera's manual focus function instead.

  • Try not to get too close, as their characteristic oval shape may become distorted. This happens especially with wide-angle lenses – your smartphone's lens, for example, is naturally slightly wide-angle.

Ideas:

Simple: Use plain bowls placed in a plain environment to create a minimalist look. Let shadows and negative space do the work.

Cosy: Ask someone to hold an egg in their hand. Old hands provide a wonderful contrast to the fresh smoothness of an egg.

In a nest: Place eggs in a bird's nest – either a real one from last year that is no longer in use, or make your own from twigs, hay and/or moss.

Flat Lays: Layer forthyssia and daisy branches with a cluster of eggs and place the arrangement on an interesting surface. This could be an old wooden surface, newspaper or even sheet music.

An Easter baking backdrop: Add a tea towel, flour or ingredients to tell a baking story.

A classic Easter egg backdrop: Play with symmetrical or chaotic arrangements of your painted Easter eggs.

Texture: Focus on the speckles, pores or cracks of the shell. You can also break an egg and let the liquid ooze out, focusing on capturing the contrast between the hard cracks and the soft, sticky liquid.

This is a typical example of a lesson that you will have access to every weekday for the next 10 weeks. I hope you can see the potential that these individual lessons can give your photography 🤗
