Having a good camera and taking pictures in automatic mode is like buying a Porsche and only ever driving it in first gear.

Do you often ask yourself why your images don't turn out how you hoped they would?

Or are you sometimes amazed at how good other people's images look compared to yours?

This isn't because they are more talented than you, it's because they've mastered photography in manual mode.

Almost every good (or fantastic) image was taken in manual mode. If it wasn't then it was a coincidence. Good photography shouldn't be the result of lucky circumstances or a matter of coincidence. You should know exactly what you want to create and have the ability to tell your camera what it needs to do to make you happy!

Every camera that is able to photograph in manual mode what designed to do just that. Automatic mode is an absolute compromise and will give you the same results as a pocket camera.

IMAGES WITH BLURRED BACKGROUND

Everyone loves this kind of photo and for good reason, because that's how the human eye perceives its surroundings. Your camera in automatic mode will create images with an average amount of exposure and about 80% of sharpness. That's why they look so boring  and unrealistic.

CREATING RAZOR SHARP IMAGES

Some subjects look best when they are absolutely razor-sharp, such as architecture, patterns or minimalist photography.

PURPOSEFULLY UNDEREXPOSING

By purposefully under exposing you will give your image more atmosphere and character - and you will be able to accentuate areas of light and dark.

Of course it is possible to decrease exposure in post-processing, but there are often contrast rings or the pictures are pixelated. It is best if the under exposing takes place in the camera.

PURPOSEFULLY OVEREXPOSING

There is nothing more beautiful than summery pictures that radiate a wonderful soft air of lightness. This look can be purposefully created by slightly over exposing, you do however have to watch out that your images don't contain blown out areas.

Here, too, the brightness should be created in the camera, otherwise the bright areas may turn grundgy and discoloured.

EXTENDING MOVEMENT

A method of photography with which you can create long strips of light, for example of the taillights of cars driving away or turn running water into a milky looking mass of softness.

FREEZING MOVEMENT

If you want to take pictures of children playing or dogs running, you have to act fast and your camera needs to be set up and as ready as you are.

PHOTOGRAPHING IN MANUAL MODE

Boring photography in automatic mode will soon be a thing of the past.

Learn all the creative possibilities that photography in manual mode offers.

From blurring in the background, overexposure, underexposure or perfectly sharp images. Thanks to the simple and logical explanation in this workshop you will understand and be able to apply each of these concepts in the space of a few minutes.

LEARN TO ADJUST THE SETTINGS OF THE CAMERA

If you would like to use the settings of the pictures from other photographers as a guide, it is important to understand that the events were a little different from yours, e.g. they took pictures with a different light, maybe it was sunny and yours is cloudy, or they used a completely different camera and / or lens. You will learn how you can quickly adjust the settings and achieve the same result!

HOW GOOD IS YOUR CAMERA REALLY?

Every camera has strengths and weaknesses. With the simple exercises in the workshop you can test your camera to find out why some pictures will work for you and why some won't (and what you can do about it).

Only then do you know which pictures will definitely succeed and which pictures aren't possible to create at all with the equipment you have. In the course of the workshop you will learn work-arounds and be able to create most image looks with the equipment you already have.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LENSES:

Certain lenses do certain things and before you start trying to take images with blurry backgrounds or freeze your dogs movement when he's running over the fields it may be worth finding out which of your lenses will be able to accomplish this best.

Girls With Cameras - Dawn Hansch

Hi, I’m Dawn HΓ€nsch,

founder of Girls with Cameras and SOOP and also creator of this wonderful workshop

I created the content of this workshop so that anyone and everyone can learn the concept of combing exposure, aperture and ISO in the easiest possible way.

After trying in vain to understand how other photography trainers were teaching these methods I ended up teaching myself. I truly wish there had been a β€œDawn” to teach me back then. This workshop will save you the stress and wasted time that I went through.
