Day One: Why a Photography Style isn't restrictive

The first thing you need to know is that your photography style has nothing to do with WHAT you photograph and everything to do with HOW you implement the same set of techniques into building each of your photos.

As photographers, we find it difficult to pinpoint HOW we want our photographs to look because of the sheer amount of options.

In this session, we established that a photography style should not be restrictive. To begin the journey of developing your photography style, you first need to define what your future style will look like.

Your taste will determine your photography preferences.

Developing a photography style only needs to be done once, but your style will still continue to evolve with time. The elements that you decide upon now will still be apparent in your photos in years to come.

By having a photography style, you will become more creative. Photographers without a style end up standing in front of their chosen subject and going through the millions of ways in which they could capture it and finally ending up photographing it in a similar way to a photo they once saw on the internet and end up feeling in no way connected to the finished image.

Photographers with a unique style already have a set of options lined up in their minds, giving themselves the freedom to flex their creative muscles.
