Come join me for this fun exercise
to get started developing your unique photo style
You will need:
A Pinterest account <<== – if you haven't already signed up for Pinterest, I highly recommend it as it's a wonderful search engine for photography and blog articles. You'll need an account to create your style mood board.
Click on this link <<== to access the gallery I've created for you, and meet the inspiring photographers whose photos I included in my mood board.
Watch this video to see how this exercise works and how it will help you develop your unique photo style:
These are the steps I took:
Once you've created a “favourite album” on Instagram, you can transfer it to a designated Pinterest board.
To do this, you need a Pinterest account, you need to be on the Chrome browser, and you need the Google Chrome extension “Pin to Pinterest”.
Once all this is set up, you can start pinning photos from Instagram to Pinterest.
Open Pinterest.
Find the mood board in your account.
If you don't see the “Find more ideas for this board” option and just see a “+” sign instead, rename your board (why this happens and why changing the name makes the difference is beyond me, but it seems to work).
Once you see the “find more ideas…” option, click on it and add the photos you like to your collection by clicking on the pin in the upper right corner.
If, at any point, the recommended images start getting monotonous, you can refresh the page. You can also keep going back to the original collection, refreshing the page and clicking on the “Inspiration for this board” option at the bottom of the page again. Each time, you'll be shown new images - they usually represent the last couple of photos you added to the collection, so keep that in mind when you’re selecting.
If you particularly like a photo and want more of the same, just different, click on the image, and an enlarged version will appear. You can then scroll down. Add all the photos you like to your collection by selecting the board from the drop-down menu (with this method, you need to add the images to the board actively).
I hope you enjoyed this exercise. It’s the first step in “defining” your photography style. The next step is to find more images to add to the mood board. In the workshop “Stand Out with Style” you will be guided through the process. Once you know what your future style looks like, you will learn “HOW” to analyse those photos so that you can copy them (this is only to get a feel for the method) and learn “HOW” to create them. From there, you’ll be guided through the process of presenting your photography style to the world on Instagram - including a posting strategy that perfectly suits you, your photography and your followers.
Watch out for the email where you can sign up.
Thank you for participating!
